Our next 18 for October success story is New York Fashion House
New York Fashion House is an international clothing boutique established by Marjorie Viard. Marjorie had an affinity for fashion since she was 16 years old. Over the years, she worked at a local retail store, managed a fashion house in New York City and even sold accessories to friends and family. Although, she always wanted to have her own shop, Marjorie was unsure how to become an entrepreneur.
Marjorie decided to take action by contacting the Wilkes University Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Her SBDC consultant helped Marjorie create a business plan, develop a marketing strategy and understand basic bookkeeping. Over the next few months she continued to work with the SBDC, learning how to coordinate with suppliers and distributors in New York.
Marjorie leased her first store in 2010, with a grand opening that included several political figures and business leaders. She credits the SBDC for her success and thinks of her consultants as family members. Marjorie plans to continue working with her consultants as she expands her business.
