18 for October: Slowboy Racing

  • Share |

Up next in our 18 for October success stories is Slowboy Racing.

Slowboy Racing was founded by Mike Huml, a former sales executive. Mike started the business in 2002, after finding himself unemployed and needing to support his wife and new baby. Mike wanted to create a business that provided automotive parts for rally racing, a sport made popular by the ESPN X games.

When Mike decided to write his initial business plan, he quickly turned to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

Mike's SBDC consultant helped direct his concept into a profitable business. Within a few years, Slowboy Racing was put on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing private companies. With the help of the SBDC, Slowboy Racing has now produced over 6 million in annual revenue.
