The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) hosted the 14th Annual Entrepreneur’s Growth Conference on May 9, 2012 welcoming over 245 attendees and 40 exhibitors to the event.  Registrants were able to attend a variety of workshops with topics on business planning, marketing, strategic planning and starting a business.

Dr. Mary McKinney, director of the Duquesne University SBDC advocates that the conference is an event that not only brings entrepreneurs together to network, but improves their game, thanks to workshops and one-on-one mentoring sessions.  McKinney has led the programming for the conference since its humble beginnings as “Entrepreneur’s Day” and the event is now in its 14th year.  “We started off with two tracks, growth and startup, and then added technology track later on,” says McKinney on the radio program The American Entrepreneur.

Raul Valdes Perez, executive chairman of Vivisimo was this year’s keynote speaker. Raul led Vivisimo from when he co-founded it in June 2000 until June 2009, when he became executive chairman.  Before Vivisimo, Raul was on the Carnegie Mellon University computer science department faculty, where his research on new methods and applications of knowledge discovery led to publishing nearly 50 journal articles in natural, social and computer science.  He currently serves on the boards of directors of the Pittsburgh Technology Council, the Pittsburgh World Affairs Council, and the Advisory Board of Safaba Translation Solutions.
