May seminars to educate business owners on what it takes to sell to the Federal Government

The Pennsylvania SBDC is hosting five seminars in May designed to provide entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills and support needed to market their businesses to the government. The seminars will address requirements of contracting with the Federal Government including accounting procedures and special Federal grant programs for commercializing ideas and bringing new products to market.

Accounting Requirements for Federal Contractors
Date: May 9, 2013
Time: 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. – Exton, PA
Details: Many Federal contract awards are contingent on a contractor’s accounting system and its ability to perform certain cost, timekeeping, and billing functions. The Kutztown University SBDC will host a seminar designed to assist business owners in establishing an accounting system that the federal government will find acceptable.

Government Accounting
Date: May 13-15, 2013
Time: 9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. – Pittsburgh, State College & Philadelphia, PA
Details: The Duquesne University, University of Pittsburgh and Penn State SBDCs have partnered with Innovation Partnership to offer three seminars on government accounting. These seminars are intended for business owners interested in obtaining Federal funding for their small business. Topics covered include grant/contract requirements, chart of accounts, vendor payments, indirect rates, and audits.

Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Awards
Date: May 21, 2013
Time: 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. - Breinigsville, PA
Details: The Lehigh University SBDC will lead a seminar on SBIR awards, a venture financing grant program. Initial SBIR grants help entrepreneurs conduct a feasibility study of their research and/or product idea, later phases of the program expand to the testing and development of their product and assist with commercialization. Products developed through this program have led to innovation in medicine, energy, defense, education, agriculture, and transportation.
