Governor Corbett Recognizes Gannon University SBDC Client Pennex Aluminum

Pennex Aluminum, a metals trading, manufacturing, and processing company owned by Metal Exchange Corporation, specializes in recycling industrial aluminum to create finished products. With over 33 years of experience, Pennex Aluminum is a global leader in aluminum part manufacturing. In June 2013, Pennex Aluminum expanded into the old Werner Ladder building in Greenville, adding to the company's existing Pennsylvania operations in Wellsville and York.

Pennex is a client of the Gannon University Small Business Development Center (SBDC), which coordinated with contacts at the Governor's Action Team to secure a Letter of Assistance from Governor Tom Corbett, who attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and announced his support of the company's expansion and investment of more than $3.5 million in Mercer County. "Job creation is a top priority of my administration and supporting Pennsylvania's manufacturers is a key to our success", he said. "Our support of the expansion will result in the creation of 33 new jobs in Mercer County and the retention of more than 200 positions in Pennsylvania."

Pennex has hired 22 people to make aluminum billets, and plans to hire at least nine more employees. CEO Rick Merluzzi said, "It's just great to start up an operation that had been idled for nearly four years...to add new jobs, to hire new people, and there has been some great people we have hired here and we are excited about it." Pennex will continue to further invest in new technologies and modernize the well-established Greenville casting facility.

There was live media coverage at the event, and WKBN and WFMJ published videos of the event online.
