CETRA, Inc.

Jiri Stekjskal, CEO and Founder of CETRA, Inc., has grown jobs and sales locally while building the foundation for a truly sustainable global business. With 20 full-time employees and almost $4 million in 2010 sales, the company has been among the Philadelphia 100 list of the 100 fastest-growing privately held businesses in our region 4 times.

CETRA, Inc. delivers high-quality, on-time cross-cultural communications and professional, friendly, and responsive language services to businesses and government.  CETRA’s business clients especially value reliability and high quality that results from the company’s CheckPointTM process, which includes a specifications phase, terminology management, production and post-production reviews, final formatting, and post-project review.

Beginning with analysis of the source document to locate possible trouble areas and resolve issues before they become problems, the multi-step process is coordinated by the SuperTeamTM project manager, who is the single point of contact for the client throughout the project. He also points out that his clients enjoy working with his team of professionals – who enjoy their work and their clients.

Jiri came from his native Czechoslovakia to study at the University of Pennsylvania. He founded CETRA in 1997 as he was completing his doctorate and was asked to translate thousands of documents from Czech for a law firm. He organized a team to do the translating and grew the business from this base.

Jiri has called on the Wharton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for assistance several times during the last few years, as he has developed his vision for CETRA’s globalization. “The best part of working with our Wharton SBDC consulting team was that they asked us to look 10 years ahead.” Jiri now plans to fund the growth of the business through retained earnings and to open offices during the next year in Washington, DC, California and Ireland. The following year he will open an office in Hong Kong. These offices will allow CETRA to serve the global business community 24 hours a day/7 days per week.
