Turik's Electronic

Jon Turik started gaining experience as an electrician in the U.S. Army as a Wire Systems Installer and Operator. He served from 1985 to 1989. After being honorable discharged from the military Jon gained employment with local public utility company Allegheny Power. Jon was employed with the utility from 1990 to 2009 and retired with the designation Serviceman A Top Rate.

Turik’s Electric was established in 1995 as a part-time business and now provides full time commercial and residential wiring services to a multiple county area. The company strives to provide top level customer service which is evidenced by the loyal customer base of repeat business. The company is most proud of their on-time job completion numbers and believes it is a driving factor in their continued growth.

Jon first approached the Saint Vincent Small Business Development Center (SBDC) with the goal of completing the process to be certified as a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOB). The Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business Certification will be a tremendous local advantage for the company. The first step was to develop a Business Plan with Financial Projections to show the anticipated growth potential with receiving the SDVOB Certification. There are a variety of jobs in the current market that require a SDVOB but not many companies meet the qualifications. This will allow Turik’s Electric the opportunity to bid on government related jobs as the prime company or as a sub-contractor for larger projects.

Turik’s Electric has typically serviced the following commercial and residential client: New home construction and Home remodeling; Larger electrical contractors looking for sub-contractors; Public School Districts; Hospitals; Shopping Malls; County and Local Governments; Rental Properties; State Government Agencies and Federal Government Agencies and Offices.

The company has grown over the years to provide a variety of products and services to both the commercial and residential customer that include: New construction and remodeling wiring projects; Surge Protection; 24 hour emergency service; Service Panels for both Single Phase and Three Phase needs; Pole Setting; Generators; Overhead and Underground service; Smoke Alarm systems and Data Systems such as CAT 5 systems.

Marketing tools to be used include the development of a company web site as well as a listing in the phone book. Additional tools to be used include registering with the contractor registry known as CCR in addition to the Vet Biz system of bidding. The company will also register with the Pennsylvania Department of General Services (PA GSA) for state opportunities. Others will include seminar networking and word-of-mouth testimonials from satisfied clients.

On a side note, the company has received the Veteran Owned Business Certification as well as completed the process for the Federal Central Contractor Registration (CCR) and is now bidding jobs through the Vet-Biz system. Anticipated growth has allowed the business to hire one new employee who is currently going through the initial probationary period.
