Cider Mills Landscapes

Cider Mill Landscapes was founded by Bob McCusker in 2007, to provide customized landscape design and construction including stonework, planting, irrigation systems, fencing and walls. With an established customer base in Northern Delaware, Southern Delaware County and the Chester County area, Cider Mill sought to expand its operation into more neighborhoods along the
Philadelphia Main Line (specifically, Wallingford, Nether Providence, Swarthmore, Media, Berwyn, and Villanova).

In order to increase revenue and expand its customer base in the desired strategic territories, Cider Mill Landscapes needed a larger horticultural capacity and proceeded to acquire Askey Landscapes, a company that grows plants and shrubbery for landscaping needs in the area of Swarthmore and Wallingford. Askey Landscapes had been in business since 1985 and had a loyal customer following.

The acquisition and expansion process required substantial capital and the consultants at the Widener Small Business Development Center (SBDC) worked with Mr. McCusker to create a strategic business plan and financial projections. With the help of the SBDC, Cider Mill Landscapes sought and successfully acquired a loan of $75,000 from WSFS Bank. Bob commented, “The Widener SBDC was pivotal in helping me acquire the capital that I needed in order to expand my business. I am deeply appreciative of everything that
they have done.”

Cider Mill has added 3 new jobs to handle the new business. Business has been strong and is growing in the new markets.
