4K Outdoors

Chris Klonowski’s working life included 23 years of progressively responsible management experience with seven different employers.  This background gave him the requisite experience and a very strong desire to take the helm of a business where he could control his own destiny.  Klonowski was on the lookout for an opportunity and he found one close to home in the form of a sporting goods store which he felt had a good deal of upside potential..
Like many of the clients who find their way to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Klonowski needed a little help putting together a plan to obtain financing and he approached the SBDC in Mid-August of 2016.
The SBDC worked with Klonowski to produce a plan that articulated Klonowski’ ideas for increasing store visibility and sales. The historical tax returns of the target business were utilized as a base to create a set of projections that reflected the ability of the store under new ownership to pay back the financing necessary for the deal.
Klonowski invested his own money and obtained the necessary bank financing.  A closing was held in November in time for the holiday sales season and Klonowski and his wife Lanette are now operating the business.  They changed the name of the business to 4K Outdoors, LLC from Gone for a Day Sports and improved signage to increase visibility has been installed. Klonowski is now working on improving businesses website and ramping up sales.  To date sales have been in line with Klonowski’s expectations and he is optimistic that he will be able to exceed the projections that were put forward in the plan.
