Local business changes ownership: Briar Hill Rustic Furniture

Duane Hedgecock had been working for Briar Hill Rustic Furniture for 23 years when the current owner, Denny Pierce approached him to inquire if he was interested in purchasing the business. Briar Hill has been manuafcturing unique white cedar log outdoor and indoor furniture in Leeper, Pennsylvania for over 60 years. Duane felt that Briar Hill would be a viable business for many more years and decide to attempt to purchase the business.

Hedgecock contacted the Clarion County Community Bank to apply for a commercial loan. At that meeting, the Clarion County Community Bank referred Hedgecock to the Clarion University Small Buisness Development Center (SBDC) for the purpose of developing a business plan to support the funding request. Hedgecock worked closely with Matt Sopher of the Clarion University SBDC to develop a business plan to show how he intended to continue the operations of the business. This comprehensive plan included an industry overview, competitive analysis, market demographics, financial projections and expected sources of funding.

Hedgecock received approval on a $275,000 commercial bank loan from Clarion County Community Bank. On August 17, Hedgecock officially took over ownership of the Briar Hill manufacturing facility.

By purchasing Briar Hill Rustic Furniture, Hedgecock has made sure that the business remains operating and employing people in the Clarion County region. Hedgecock has retained all of the employees, including five full-time and two part-time employees and plans to gradually grow the business to support further employment.
