International Trade Specialist

The Temple University Small Business Development Center is looking for a Senior Specialist to work directly with small businesses and entrepreneurs on international trade issues. The Sr. Specialist will be responsible for responding to request for information and technical assistance in the Philadelphia area, that encompasses the following counties: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia. As part of a statewide network of the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center's International Trade Program, the Sr. Specialist will have regional responsibility for training SBDC consultants within the regional network, and performing consulting and technical assistance for small businesses engaged in international business. The incumbent will serve as the lead consultant on all cases referred from other Small Business Development Centers within the network. The Sr. Specialist educates business owners on international trade regulations, and researches trade opportunities for small business owners and entrepreneurs interested in import/export activities, and assist in identifying business problems the client may have. The Sr. Specialist also plans and coordinates workshops and seminars for small businesses and entrepreneurs on international business. The incumbent will represent the Center with outside agencies who assist entrepreneurs, CDC's, banks, governmental officials and professional organizations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field. Four years of experience in private business, plus two years exposure to international trade. An equivalent combination of post Bachelor's level education and directly related experience will be considered.
  • Thorough knowledge of international business resources and some understanding of the U.S. export regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform international trade research on-line.
  • Ability to write engagement and consulting letters to companies who receive in-depth international trade consulting.
  • Ability to travel between Ambler, Bucks, and Main Campus offices, client sites and other SBDC's within the region.
  • Demonstrated experience with PC’s and Microsoft office.
  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking in order to promote international trade programs for the SBDC as well as other SBDC programs.
  • Ability to develop on-line resources for the Center.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and up to date client/consulting activity on a daily basis.
  • Interviewing skills are also required.

  • Masters degree
