Business Nanny

In late 2015, Denise Boyle approached the University of Scranton SBDC for assistance in starting a home-based business. Ms. Boyle was interested in becoming a virtual assistant from her home in Peckville, Pennsylvania. Since her previous work experience had gained her experience in a variety of different business functions, she felt this was something valuable she could share with other small business owners. She came to the SBDC for assistance getting her idea off the ground.

Ms. Boyle reached out to the SBDC for start-up assistance and guidance. Center consultants worked with her to determine her project cost, discussed the possibility of financing, and assisted her with developing a payment policy. The SBDC also assisted the client with marketing ideas, such as referral programs, social media marketing, and planning a grand opening. With the help of the SBDC, a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony was held on April 7th, 2016. The ribbon cutting was attended by Robert Watts, Regional Director, Governor’s Action Team; Larry West, Regional Director for Senator John Blake; and Paul Macknosky, Director, PA Dept. of Community & Economic Development.

Business Nanny is now providing services in bookkeeping, social media, inventory tracking, research, scheduling, and can also serve as a client liaison.

The SBDC will continue to assist Business Nanny with financial management and marketing assistance.
